Vizolution pair to tackle Newport marathon for Latch charity

Two members from the Vizolution Wales team, Senior Project Managers Chris Jones (above right) and Rhys Williams, will be taking part in the ABP Newport Wales Marathon on May 5 to raise money for Latch Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity.

Expectations are high, as both Mr Jones and Mr Williams are keen runners in their free time. In fact, Mr Jones completed a marathon last year, and Mr Williams is a regular member of the Vizolution Running Club. This means that while the rest of us are catching up on our Netflix backlog and dropping crumbs into our keyboards, Mr Williams is pounding the pavements of Port Talbot.

The national marathon of Wales boasts a fast, scenic route and is arguably one of the UK’s flattest marathons. The 26.2-mile course takes in iconic landmarks, coastal wildlife and even a picturesque medieval village.

Mr Williams said: “This will be my first marathon, but I have done a number of different running events over the last few years, which will hopefully help me get over the finish line!”

Vizolution Wales has performed various charitable activities for Latch Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity, including in September 2018, when Leighton Sparkes, Robin Betts and Jonathon Gibb cycled the 220 miles from the Vizolution office in Port Talbot to the office in London.

The cycling trio raised a total of £1,301.50, far in excess of their £750 target, and, as agreed, Vizolution contributed a further £750, bringing the grand total to £2,051.50.

Mr Jones said: “Running a marathon is a real challenge, but Latch is such a worthy cause that I’m happy to work hard in order to support the charity and raise awareness.”

Latch supports the children and their families who are being treated by the Oncology Unit at the Children’s Hospital of Wales. Around 70 new cases are diagnosed every year in its catchment area from Chepstow to Aberystwyth.

Mr Williams and Mr Jones are aiming to raise at least £500, and Vizolution have pledged to match donations up to £500.
