Following hot on the heels of Chris Jones and Rhys Williams, who last month ran the Newport Wales Marathon, 12 members of the Vizolution Wales team are gearing up to tackle the upcoming Swansea Half Marathon in a bid to raise money for LATCH Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity.
Taking place at 10am on June 23, the Swansea Half Marathon is widely regarded as UK’s best half marathon, with over 6 miles of stunning coastline forming part of the flat, fast and incredibly scenic route.
For some members of the team, like John Sloan, this year’s Swansea Half Marathon will act as an opportunity to beat a personal best.
“The 2018 Swansea Half marathon was a tough day with hot running conditions, and I didn’t do as well as I wanted, so I was determined to come back and run it again. I am confident that I will beat my time of last year, and hope that this won’t be the last time that I run the event, or the last time I fundraise,” said Mr Sloan, who is a Senior Developer at Vizolution.
There are others, however, like Developer at Vizolution, Scott Davey who are feeling less confident as they have never run such distances before.
“I’m very nervous about the race, even more since my extra training uncovered a knee injury. For me, this is a personal goal, but having the team adds an accountability to make sure I train and commit. There are some really great people on the team, which have kept me motivated.”
The team will be running for Latch Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity, which supports the children and their families who are being treated by the Oncology Unit at the Children’s Hospital of Wales. Around 70 new cases are diagnosed every year in its catchment area from Chepstow to Aberystwyth.
John Sloan, Paul Jones, Rhys Williams, Rebecca Evans, Louise Norris, Richard Davies, Matthew Walker, Jonathan Gibbs, David Sims, Mark Wanless, Catherine Raybould and Scott Davey will be joining an estimated 10,000 other runners at the Swansea Half Marathon.
